Nick Battle is a musician, author, funeral celebrant and occasional broadcaster. He is also a man of faith. His music career has seen him work with everyone from Sir Cliff Richard to the Spice Girls and write songs with Gary Barlow. He lives to create, communicate and to be compassionate.

Nick is joined in this concert by acclaimed folk group Ebb & Flow, and leading Americana artist Steve Nelson.

Nick Battle has enjoyed a long and varied career in the music industry. He was in 70’s rock band After The Fire, worked at IRS records in the 80’s as an A&R man (his first top 10 hit was the novelty record by Karel Fialka) ‘Hey Matthew’.

He ran his own independent record promotion business from 1988-1993 and his clients included George Benson, Sir Cliff Richard, Ronnie Wood, Take That, Clannad, & Paul Hardcastle among many others.

In 1993 he helped start the music publisher Windswept Pacific Music Ltd and introduced Simon Fuller (his former client) and the Spice Girls to the company. At the height of the company’s success they enjoyed 44 top 40 hits in one year with a team of just two creative staff.

He has had his songs recorded by the actress Jane Horrocks, Michael Ball, Sir Cliff Richard and Engelbert Humperdinck and has written with Gary Barlow, Tony Swain, Chris Eaton & David Grant.

As an Executive Producer in the noughties he made records with Russell Watson, Michael Ball (four albums) the Honeyriders and Engelbert Humperdinck.

He is in demand as a great judge of the popular song and has served on the Ivor Novello’s
committee as well as the MPA Pop Publishers committee and was also hired by Simon Cowell to provide invaluable research to the Syco group of companies.

Between 1993-2003 his first wife fought a ten year battle with cancer and this has led to him founding the Gravel Road Trust a registered charity for carers, and patients dealing with long term illness and also the bereaved.

In 2008 he wrote his autobiography, ‘Big Boy’s Don’t Cry’ and subsequently two more books The Daily Male 1 & 2 followed along with in 2009 his album, ‘King Of My Heart’ featuring collaborations with Chaz Jankel, Kipper, Gary Barlow, Tony Swain, Chris Eaton, and Paul Field among others.

For three and a half years he also had his own radio show, ‘Men At Work…’, on Premier Radio.

At present he runs a small music publishing company, which enjoyed a No. 1 record with ‘Let’s get Ready To Rumble’ by Ant & Dec – as well as publishing Elizabeth McGovern’s band, Sadie & The Hotheads and acclaimed folk group The Open Road. He has co-authored two books with Eric Delve published by Hodder & Stoughton. ‘The Billy Fidget Letters’, & ‘Billy Fidgets Family Fortunes’, and in 2015 his latest book ‘Love, Loss & Loneliness’ was published by Authentic Media.

He lives in Cornwall is married to Nicky and has three children Misha, Jodie and Jesse, a Boxer dog called Monty and a miniature Schautzer called Betty.

He lives to create, communicate and on a good day be compassionate.

He is also a funeral celebrant and is currently writing a new book about his life and work in Cornwall.
